WINDRUSH Roadshow Workshop: A call for Bexley Schools

Are you a Bexley School?

Would your school community benefit from learning about Windrush?

An interactive workshop with the chance to meet with folks from the windrush generation.

Active Horizons will be delivering Windrush Roadshow workshops around the Bexley borough, particularly aimed at schools and the community. The aim of the workshop is to celebrate and commemorate Windrush by raising awareness to young generation through the lenses of the elders in our community with lived experiences. They will be sharing their journey of Windrush and how they have helped shaped Britain today.

As you may be aware on the 22nd June we will be celebrating 75 year anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush Generation. The arrival of the ship HMT Empire Windrush at Tilbury docks in 1948, bringing more than 800 passengers from the Caribbean, is a moment that shaped modern Britain.

Workshop Outline

As a school based in Bexley, we would like to offer this opportunity to run an interactive workshop to your pupils/students.

  • The workshop will include a mini exhibition of the Windrush, an interactive discussion led by Active Horizons’ Youth Workers and someone from Windrush generation and an opportunity for everyone to ask questions.
  • We may deliver this workshop as part of an assembly, A class or year group. This depends on your needs.
  • The Workshop is at no cost.
  • Timeframe of the work the workshop will be for 30-45 minutes. But we can give an allowance for 1hour just to include set up time.
  • We are aiming to roll this out in June – July. We anticipate a high interest for this opportunity and would encourage you to let us know your interest very soon. As this will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
